Rising awareness of changing market conditions and increasing competition in short-series production required an innovative solution allowing the agile collection and processing of manufacturing data.
NM Polska Sp. z o. o. (VELUX group) – a manufacturing company with over 70 years’ experience. Their factories located in Poland produce windows both for domestic and European market.
Project was completed within 5 months of the order date in 2013.
Software and Technology:
• Microsoft SQL Server,
• Windows CE,
• Windows Communication Foundation,
• ASP. NET.
The system implemented consists of two applications – a mobile app and a central web app.
The first one, installed on mobile devices, was designed to enable machine operators to easily and ergonomically register production data in real time.
The other application is available through any web browser, and is dedicated for shift leaders, management staff and system administrators. This central application allows users to manage mobile terminals, record working time and access the current production data online.
The data acquisition system was designed with modularity in mind to allow for flexibility according to new client requirements. The system currently registers and aggregates the following data:
Gathers data about employees work effort in a given position. It is a crucial aspect when employees rotate between positions within a shift.
Production employees can report failures and downtime breaks. E-mail notifications about the failure are automatically sent.
VELUX Company has been operating in Poland for over 20 years. There is a sales office in Warsaw and factories in Gniezno and Namysłów which produce roof windows for the whole European market.
Production on such an international scale demands monitoring and fast reaction to any irregularities in the production process. Delayed reaction results in additional costs and losses for both the company and its employees.
Implementing Exence’s production data acquisition system eliminated difficulties associated with time spent reporting and gathering data about failures, made the notification of appropriate people more efficient and made quality control possible during the production process. By making this possible the costs of failures were significantly reduced.
Thanks to the ergonomic mobile application the system supports production employees and the web application supports supervisors. Collecting the data directly from the worksite and gathering it in one place simplified the process of incident reporting. Data gathered in real-time allows the generation of reports about the current state of production. The system also streamlined the disposal of failures through automatic email notifications being sent immediately when the failure was registered. The implemented solution enables meaningful monitoring and control of the production process. This allows the client to seamlessly and easily adjust its production plan. An additional advantage of the system is its flexibility and the possibility to constantly develop new modules.
